NAME: Captain Steven Netsooj

NICKNAME: Smirky

CURRENT ASSIGNMENT: GAMMA CENTAURI

BACKGROUND: Steven, or Smirky as he is known to most people, was born on the Blacron, the homeworld of the Blacktron II. He had an uneventful childhood. The middle of three children (one brother, one sister), he was the only one to enter the Blacktron Military Academy, at the age of 19. He placed fairly high in all of his classes, but never was tops in any. He passed the 5 year course, and was assigned to the TALANA, were he would eventually rise to 2nd in command. He eventually became Captain at the age of 31, and was assigned to the GAMMA CENTAURI. So far he has proved to be a competent captain, and very loyal to his crew and ship, as well as the Blacktron Government.

BEHIND THE SCENES: Smirky is one of my first Blacktron,(Back in late 2004, I had ordered about a dozen Blacktron 2 figs, of which Smirky was one) and the second one to have a 'personality'.(more about that in another profile) The personality stemmed from the fact that he had only had half a smile, or a 'smirk'. He originally was made a Commander, but then he got promoted twice, and then demoted back to captain. About 2 or so years ago, after much debate on my part, Smirky became my official Space Sigfig. He is also a major character in an story of which I have been working on since mid 2010.

So since Blacktron creations have been scarce as of late, I have decided to do a little profile on all of my Blacktron minifigs, of which I have 50 or so, as of this post. I shall (hopefully) doing one profile a week, so this should last me a year. Hmm, maybe I should do two a week... I will also be getting more Blacktron minifigs as time goes by (It's a given, with how much I like them!), so whenever I acquire a new fig, I shall give him a name and profile, then post him/her/it.

A little background information might be useful first, so here goes.

I keep a running tab on all of my Minifigs. (As of this post, I have 1317 minifigs) And most of them have been named! (Even if it is something silly like the last name being their occupation (i.e. Ronette Reporter)) Not all are named. Castle footmen, Stormies, and all around and kind of soldier generally don't have names. Now, my Space minifigs are probably the theme that has the largest percentage of figs with names. 150 Space Minifigs, with only 9 not having a proper- Wait, only 9!?! That's a freaking 94% with names! I didn't realize it was THAT high! Town probably doesn't even have that high... Anyways, Since ALL of my Blacktron minifigs (Should that be capitalized or not?) had proper(ish) names, and since I had plenty of the, and since I was in the right mood, I took pictures of them, with the intention of posting profiles.

A not that should be considered is that all my Blacktrons are in a military of sorts, and therefore have ranks. And these ranks are pretty much taken straight form Star Trek, which was a VERY heavy influence in my early days of Space Lego MOCing. So all the figs will have any of the ranks of Admiral, Captain, Commander, Lieutenant-Commander, Lieutenant, and Ensign. I am pretty sure Star Trek (And the real life navy which Star Trek gets the ranks from) has a couple different Kinds of Lieutenants and/or ensigns, but my mind back in the day was too simple to understand that, and it has since stuck. I like simple.

Okay, enough talking, I should have the first profile up within a couple days or so (Baring a disaster of any kind)

Aerial Bomber

This is quite possibly the fastest I have posted a MOC of mine here after building it...

Well, the Aerial Bomber, my first MOC of 2012, is a ship built by me, but is based of that classic of a set, 6981 Aerial Intruder.

Backstory of the build is I was in the mood to build some Blacktron, and I had only enough parts to build one cockpit, and I had that large panel extra, so I decided to take another stab at building an Aerial Intruder style ship. (My other attempts being okay at best) The idea of making it a bomber came from games I plyaed with my original 6981, where the ship would use the two little vehicles int he main section as, you guessed it, bombs. Also using that big ol missle as the other cockpit also helped in deciding to make in a bomber. Interesting to note that the pilot in this here ship is one of the two figs from my 6981.

And to top it all off, it is really swooshable!

With a lack of new material lately, I have dug into my Brickshelf folder to see what Blacktron stuff I had forgotten (Or was in the midst of a computer problem) to blog.

So as the picture above appears, it isn't a spaceship, but a mech(a?) This is my third (I think) attempt at making a mech of any kind, and I feel it turned out fairly well. It is actually a revamped 6878 Sub Orbital Guardian.

Those dark bley pieces on the feet have been replaced with black since the picture, but I am too lazy to take new pictures

Anyways, top one was built by Pasukaru, a regular contributer to this blog, and the bottom one was built by none other then me.

I must say, Pasukaru's photo editing skills far exceed mine. Not hard when I have none at all.

6933 Review

Well, after typing this review, I can say that I have added Spectral Starguider's set number to my very short list of set numbers that I have memorized.

Anyways, I have done a review of 6933 Spectral Starguider over on Classic Space, and I am way to lazy to bother typing it all up agian here, and figuring out exactly how all the coding works here, so I'll just redirect you to there. I'll give the stats, but if you want a more comprehensive review, I suggest you go to here:

6933 Review

Parts: 8/10 Selection isn't great, with it being mostly 6 large wheels that take up a lot of space, but even so, almost all of it is useful to some extent
Playability 9.5/10 This is easily the make-or-break part of my review. I just LOVE driving this set on the table, on the floor, or even in the dirt (More on that later)
Design: 8.5/10 I feel it is a little weak here, seeing as it is mostly a ship on a chassis with 6 wheels and a little platform on the back.
Figs: 9/10 How can you say two Blacktrons are not awesome? would have gotten a full ten if there had been a third, but even back then TLC had some limits.
Nostalgia: 9.5/10 When I first got this set back in 06 or 07, I wasn't particularly fond of it, but over the years, I have found this set to be amazing.

Overall score is 44.5/50, or 8.9. That rates as very good in my books.

In fact, this particular ship was built by Josh, someone who I know pretty well, and is also going to Brickcon, And he is taking this lovely ship with him, So I shall have the chance to check it out, and perhaps swoosh it around...

Also, it utilizes some rather odd pieces, like that duplo piece (The landing gear thingy) and some new Hero Factory armour. I say Josh is the best person at using useless pieces in awesome ways.

1479 revamped

Twice! And both by Yours Truly!

The first large shuttle was built mainly because I had a bunch of extra Blacktron figs floating around, I had that extra canopy, and I wanted to make a shuttle (Which is what I theorize 1479 Twin Pilot Craft as) The resemblance to 1479 was not planned on at first, but I went with it as the build progressed and as successive modifications came along
The second one was actually built first, and was built intentionally to be a revamped form of 1479 (I think I might have that number memorized now)

Both shuttles include many features of 1479. Cockpit up front. Forward facing wings with those dishes on the ends. Triple engines. Antennas on the sides. Single fin on the rear.

The Colour it Blacktron Contest is back!

This time is a little different then last. Instead of just building an old creation in Blacktron colours, you can also build any official set in the Blacktron colour schemes.

Rules:

-NO clones! (Custom pieces are allowed)
-Digital entries are allowed.
-No piece or size limit.
-No Blacktron 3 creations.

Prizes (assuming Bricklink comes through):

1st place: A used 6894 Invader with a Blacktron II minifig.
2nd place: A used 6832 Super Nova 2, without Instructions.

It isn't much, but hopefully it will make you build some Blacktron!

Diamond2a goes good old studs up style with this beauty of a ship, named Blacktron Explorer. If this were a set, and it looks like it could fit right in with the classic Blacktron II sets, I wouldn't hesitate to snatch it up! The photography here is also very different then what we are used to.

It's been awhile since I posted on of my Blacktron creations. However, after procrastinating a bit, I decided to finally post my largest SHIP to date (Spaceship, that is):

The Gamma Centauri, Slightly based off two of my previous ships, is 120 studs long, making it my biggest SHIP, not including any sailing ships I have made. Complete with a detailed (probably my most detailed yet) interior, a crew of about 20 (Just estimating) and utilizing those 10x10 quarter dishes that I said I would use, this is one of my best, if not THE best, Blacktron Ship I have built.

Built buy Vid Legradic, this ship has it all. ANOTHER use for the previously useless quarter dome peices, plus the usual cockpits, makes this a peice of work. My only nitpick, is it could really use a couple anteneas thrown in there somewhere. I likes anteneas.

It's been awhile since my last post, but with the opening of the Lego Store in Canada (WOOOT!!) and with Flickr acting up again, I have been a bit hard pressed to blog. I'll make it up by posting this very awesome creation by yoderism.

This fighter, named Accipiter Attack fighter (It's even got an A to start the name, Bravo!) looks every bit the perfect swooshabe fighter.

This has got to be one of my favorite Blacktron creations to date. It's got a perfect shape, and lots of deatails, like the white greeblies. I like the white greeblies. I want to try that sometime.

One of my creations this time.

Not much to say about it other than I wanted to build a ship with some massive guns on top, and hidden guns all over. Didn't succeed all to well. Too boxy, and all that. My next planned ship shouldn't be too boxy, so I am learning! I quite like my big fins on top, but it didn't really look so good since there was nothing to balance it out on the bottom.

Black Hole

This slightly on the old side SHIP is one of massive proportions. Not much else to say than that, other than it is plain awesome. This is so big, it makes those big trans neon green peices look small!

I do, however, have a small nitpick about his. The white seems to scattered. I have had this problem, so I know what I am talking about.

But hey, It's a big Blacktron ship! Can't complain too much!

A rather unique shape, but still pure Blacktron. The color scheme is right on, for starters. The use of the two half bubble pieces is quite cool, but I imagine Mr. Skull Twin in there doesn't stay put when the ship gets swooshed around.

An old Creation

It's not as if Blacktron is not being built by everyone, so every so often an old creation needs to be shown, just to keep this blog afloat. This little speeder is built by a person who normally builds Castle and Pirate MOCs.

It really reminds me of the SP3 alien Frenzy's little vehichle from Gold heist, but with a little more oomf. Oomf is good. The creater of this MOC said it isn't very good, but I have to disagree.

This is the first MOC that I have seen that uses the dice piece, though I suspect that there are more. Pasukara's Blacktron Wall-E is just the cutest thing out there, though I won't say that to Wall-E. He is liable to shoot you with that large gun of his.

Another great ship by Chiefrocker9000, this one titled 'Blacktron Interceptor GP/2112 "The SkullCracker"'. I have to say. this is my favorite one from him yet. The cockpit defintily adds a very retro Blacktron feel to it.

Brothers are awesome. Especially when they give you Custom-made kits. Especially when those custom-made kits are Blacktron X-wings.
But that isn't the coolest part. The coolest part is the custom made box he made. Especially note the backside of the box. It isn't all Blacktron, but it is still awesome.

All I can say, is that I have the best brother in the world.

The BSS Torment is a prisoner transport, and when the prisiner tries doing stuff, or is just plain annoying, the roof can detach and the will be breathing vacuum.

This is simply a sipmle, doubled up Arial inrtuder. nut much else to say here, other than i wanted to do this for a while.

Two ships for the Blacktron II

A nice looking spacecar. Has a reminisant fell of the Super Nova II. Not so sure about the Blacktron 1 dude, but I'll let him off for having such a cool ship.

This one is a remake of a previous ship, and I think it looks much better, even though it is mainly just a bit of white added that is all of the difference. the use of the lime grill slope peices adds a nice little bit to the ships.

At first there was a glaring red background, where you couldn't get much details out of it. That has changed, and all of the little details that were previously hidden have come to light.

This has to be my favorite Blacktron II ship by Crimso Giger to date. There is more black than his previous ones, and the whole shape of the ship is quite pleasing to my eyes.

The first, an exellent micro NBT II ship. The scale is rather deceptive, for I first thought that it was miniffig scale

A remake, Part One

Part one you say? Well it goes like this: I remade two Blacktron ships, and I decided to do two different posts, one for each.

Anyhow, here is the remake of the Talana:

I kept the original dimensions (Almost, it is one stud longer), as well as key features, like the sloped front, and the pod attachments by the wings. The two guns on the front are also one of those above mentioned features.

Blacktron 2 has been underrepresented lately

Underrepresented you say? Well, Sklar, the creator of this creation, helped along the lack of Blacktron 2 in this NBT infested time. He calls his creation Blacktron M.E.L. for Mobile Exploration Lab. Strange name. Ah well.

Name aside, I find this a very interesting creation. The wheel Assembly is definitely different, and the use of the Power Miners wheel/drill thingy on the back is a nice touch.

This one being a remake of a Classic ship, 6929. It is called "Lurker", a perfect choice for a name if I do say so myself. There is plenty of detail in this model, from the awesome use of gate portcullis, to the fence piece on the front. The Blacktron 1 Color scheme was nailed perfectly in this creation, as another added bonus.
